Basic 40 Medical Interpreter Program

This course was designed for medical interpreters. If you are not ready to sign up for a full course, you may take one course at a time.The course may be used by new interpreters who would like to know what is the medical knowledge required in the field. The course may be used by experienced interpreters who have not received an intensive medical terminology course. The course may be used by healthcare employees in order to enhance their knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology. The course may be used for review for the written exam of national certification for medical interpreters. However, in order to prepare adequately for the national certification exam, the candidate will need to take the complete Medical Interpreter Program in their language pair.
Provisional Acceptance
If you are not ready to take the Screening Test, and would like to be considered for acceptance into the program once you meet all requirements, you may apply for provisional acceptance. Your qualifications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.If you are approved under Provisional Acceptance:
- Enroll in the AMT-English course.
- After passing the AMT-English course, request to enroll in the AMT -Other language course
- After passing the AMT- Other language course, request to take the Screening Test.
- Pass the Screening Test.
- Accepted into the Basic40 Program
- Enroll in the MIS Part 3
- Final Evaluation
- Receive your certificate
BAMT Payment Options
- Part 1: ENGLISH AMT : $250.00 (2 Weeks)
- Part 2 - Spanish AMT is currently available: $350.00 (Specify language) (4 Weeks)
- Part 2 - Other Language: $475.00 if you are not currently accepted into the program. (4 Weeks)
- Part 3: Medical Interpreting Skills (MIS): $300.00 (4 Weeks)
- Final Evaluation and Coaching: $150.00 to be paid when reserving the Final Evaluation.
- BAMT Extension Fee: $25.00 per week.

Course-specific Policies
For students who are enrolled in the Culture Advantage Medical Interpreter Program, enroll at the Basic40 Program Page or click here for description of the Basic40 Program.
For students who are NOT enrolled in the Culture Advantage Program: The course access is for two weeks. This is an independent-study course. After enrollment, the student receives access to the Elearn Portal Orientation course in order to become familiar with the website navigation, the learning format and the Internet requirements for accessing the lessons. It is important that the student has basic Internet Skills and able to access the materials. If the student is not able to access the sample lessons, the student would not be able to proceed with the course and fee will be refunded.
After the Orientation is completed, the materials are accessed by logging in to the AMT course. All lessons, tests, and assignments are completed within a two-week period. There is no refund once the student has access to the lessons. Although the Screening Test is not required to take this course, students should meet the minimum Culture Advantage education requirements for this course. Please contact me if you have additional questions about the requirements.If you are interested in a specific Anatomy and Medical Terminology Course in a specific language, contact me before signing up to check if the language is available.
There is a 2-part Final Exam after all of the learning activities are completed. A letter of completion (not a certificate) of Basic Anatomy and Medical Terminology will be awarded for successful completion of all requirements of the individual Basic Anatomy and Medical Terminology Course. Please note that the completion letter is NOT a medical interpreter certificate. Only students who successfully complete the Basic40 or any of the professional interpreter programs will receive a certificate. A letter of completion will not be awarded if the requirements are not completed successfully within the program plan and/or extension period. The student may request live Coaching and Practice sessions for additional fee, if the sessions are available in the specific language. The student may request to extend weekly past the time period for up to 4 weeks only with additional fee. Please refer to our Policies for additional program policies. There is no refund once the course is accessed. Thank you.
